Part of Thailand's build-up to the World Games was the World Cup qualifier in Singapore. Thailand went undefeated in their group and thus won the group and qualified directly for the WC. See below for Nick's comments on the matches in the qualifiers.
Thailand - New Zealand 31 May
Perfect for morning coffee, the World Cup qualifiers kicked off against New Zealand in the first match. A match that was decided after 5 minutes it felt like. New Zealand is a nice team to face, very friendly. We had a very good grasp of the match and were able to play relaxed, which could spill over into nonchalance on the court where you might want too much. But it's the first match in the qualifiers and, in all honesty, a good warm-up for what's to come.
Tomorrow awaits Malaysia, who lost to Singapore 8-2. I would guess that the match picture will be the same as against New Zealand where we have a lot of possession and quickly ask the question to Malaysia how much they really want to win the match against us. Thailand - Malaysia June 1
Match 2 of the group stage against Malaysia awaited. A match Malaysia started much better than us. More intense and determined, the first few minutes were shaky. It took a while to get into the game, but once we stepped up our game it was another safe win. Tomorrow is the group final against Singapore. The winner gets a direct place at the WC in Switzerland later this winter, while the loser plays a play off against the other group's 3a.
Of course, we want to take the chance and not risk a play off match, so therefore the match against Singapore will be very important. But Singapore, like us, has won 2 matches so it will be an exciting battle, may the best team win!
