Richard Is Helping Floorball Grow in Colorado
Richard has been playing floorball since the early 1980s and hopes to continue playing for many years to come. After moving to Colorado Springs in 1998, he always had the ambition of introducing and growing the sport locally. In 2007, he and his brother Jonas founded Colorado Springs Floorball with the goal of developing the sport in the region.
Since then, the club has experienced both ups and downs, but over the past five years they have built a stable and active community with consistently high participation.
Floorball in the United States is still in its early stages, but more and more clubs and groups are emerging across the country. Every year, several major tournaments are organized, bringing together teams from all over the U.S. These events are about much more than just the games—they provide an opportunity for players to reconnect with friends from the floorball community and share experiences built around this amazing sport.
Golden Gate Cup – One of the Largest Floorball Tournaments in the USA
The Golden Gate Cup in San José is one of the biggest floorball tournaments in the United States.
This year's tournament features 11 teams from the United States and Canada. Richard's local club is contributing players to three different teams. In addition to their own team, Team Colorado, they also have players representing the U19 USA Men's Development Team and the USA Women's Development Team.
Team Colorado consists primarily of local players. However, it is still common practice for teams to borrow players from other clubs in order to field a complete roster at national tournaments. This cooperation between smaller clubs helps strengthen relationships within the American floorball community and encourages continued growth of the sport.

The atmosphere at the team's final practice before the tournament is excellent. Richard believes his team has a good chance of performing well. Based on previous tournament results, Team Colorado has been placed in Division B. Both Division A and Division B will play a round-robin tournament on Saturday before teams from both divisions meet in the playoff rounds on Sunday.
“Starting in Division B is actually an advantage for us. It gives us the opportunity to build chemistry before the most important playoff games begin. I'm looking forward to a weekend full of floorball, the chance to compete against some of the best teams in the country, and, of course, seeing friends from all across the United States,” Richard concludes.
From all of us in Sweden and the DEEMONZ team, we wish Richard and Team Colorado the very best of luck!
